The logistics sector started to change dramatically. Until this time, logistics sales (which we can now call them traditional methods) were carried out by telephone, mail and physical meetings. In recent years, digitalization steps have been taken in the logistics industry, especially with the impact of the corona virus pandemic.

Now we are starting to see the first examples of these. This new trend is called online logistics marketplaces. Through these platforms, freight forwarders can sell the containers they have booked. This seems to be a very useful channel especially for freight forwarders who make contract agreements with sealines. Of course, these platforms will also have their downsides. For example, forwarders will be able to easily view each other's container prices on these platforms, thus increasing the possibility of competition on container prices.

 

How Do Shippers Book Containers From Online Logistics Marketplaces?

These platforms are similar to current online marketplaces. To book containers on the platform. Shippers should enter POD, POL, date and etc. . After this stage, the shippers should choose the suitable one among the listed containers. Then, information is sent to the forwarder via the platform. The forwarder contacts the sender who made the booking. Necessary agreements are made and the sale takes place.
